US Troops Veteran's Day - Support Our Troops

Support Our Troops This Veteran's Day

Veteran’s Day is a day that America gets to celebrate the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by all of our veterans.  Since it’s right around the corner, we wanted to give you a little information about the holiday and how it came to be.

There’s a significant amount of history behind Veteran’s Day.  It all started during World War I.  The date was November 11, 1918 at 11 am.  This was the time that the Allied Forces (which included the United States) and Germany declared a temporary end (an armistice) to the war.

Twenty years after World War I had ended the United States enacted legislation that recognized November 11th as an official day to celebrate peace between nations.  This official holiday became known as “Armistice Day”.

Ironically, however, it would only be one year later before tensions re-ignited, causing the Allied Forces and the Axis Forces to enter into World War II.  Several years after the Second World War ended, the US again found itself involved in a new war when our forces came to the aid of South Korea, who was involved in a dispute with North Korea.

After having experienced both World War II and the Korean War, in 1954 US Congress amended the federal holiday known as Armistice Day by changing the name to Veteran’s Day.

In addition to changing the name of the holiday, the focus of the holiday also underwent a slight change.  Instead of celebrating peace the new theme of Veteran’s Day became to honor all US Veterans; irrespective of which war they’d fought in.

Rock Bottom T-Shirts continues to be moved by the heroic efforts of US Veterans both past and present, as well as active duty service men and women.  To support our troops we donate 2% of all camouflage clothing and stars & stripes clothing sales to Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, Inc. and the Fisher House Foundation.

While camouflage clothing is always a great way to show support of our troops, we’ve written quite extensively about the camouflage clothing sector’s most recent rebound into the fashion arena.

This Veteran’s Day why not remember our soldiers by sporting camo wear by Rock Bottom T-Shirts.  In addition to supporting our troops, you’ll be enhancing your personal fashion wardrobe.
